It is essential for the personal trainer to be well organised, not only with experience and appearance, but also to have the ability to manage their business efficiently. At PT Training Systems we recommend four things:
Schedule Everything
Plan ahead and make time for marketing, for clients, for e-mails, etc. Make time for your family and other commitments too. Schedule your week in advance and book in your clients' sessions, your own workouts, your dental appointment, etc.
Don't Take On Too Much
Just because you've been offered work it doesn't mean you have to accept it. Sometimes things just don't fit in with our lives right now. If you take on too many clients, chances are your service levels will drop- definitely not what you want! There will always be opportunities.
Set Deadlines
Set yourself dates and times to have things finished by. As a personal trainer, you probably have blog posts, articles and client workout programs to write. Set the stopwatch and write that article you've been procrastinating.
Finish Things
Ensure you finish the things you start and reward yourself. Give yourself a gold star when you've finished the weight loss article for that magazine!
Top Tips:
As a personal trainer, it is also vital to keep a close eye on your finances. You may offer pay-as-you-go appointments or block bookings, and you may have varying expenses, such as the train fare to your client or a new set of resistance bands. Make sure you track your money each and every day!
Remember that expanding your personal training business will take time, but acquiring good organisation and time management skills is a lesson learned for life. These skills will help build you a fantastic reputation and a long-lived, successful and profitable business.
